Should you be aspiring to become Cisco accredited, but you’ve no practical experience with switches and routers, we’d recommend taking the Cisco CCNA qualification. This teaches you the knowledge you need to understand routers. Jobs that use this qualification mean it’s likely you’ll end up working for large commercial ventures that have several different sites but need their computer networks to talk to each other. The bottom line is: Authorised IT qualifications give employers exactly what they’re looking for – it says what you do in the title: i.e. I am a ‘Microsoft Certified Professional’ in ‘Designing Security for a Windows 2003 Network’. Consequently employers can look at their needs and what certifications are required to fulfil that.

Many trainers will only offer support available from 9-6 (office hours) and sometimes later on specific days; very few go late in the evening or at weekends.

Don’t buy certification programs which can only support trainees through a call-centre messaging service after 6-9pm in the evening and during weekends. Training schools will try to talk you round from this line of reasoning. But, no matter how they put it – support is required when it’s required – not as-and-when it’s suitable for their staff.

The very best training providers have many support offices from around the world. Online access provides the interactive interface to seamlessly link them all together, at any time you choose, help is at hand, without any problems or delays.

There are four specialist areas of training in a full CompTIA A+ program; you’re thought of as competent at A+ when you’ve achieved certifications for just two specialist areas. This is the reason that most colleges only have two of the courses on their syllabus. In fact it’s necessary to have the training for all four areas as many positions will be looking for knowledge and skills of all four areas. You don’t have to complete all 4 certifications, but we would recommend you learn about all four.

You might also choose to think about doing Network+ as it will enable you to work with networks, which means greater employment benefits.

Usually, trainers will provide piles of reference manuals and workbooks. This can be very boring and not ideal for studying effectively.

Modern training can now be done at home via easy-to-use DVD or CD ROM’s. Instructor-led tutorials will mean you’ll find things easier to remember by way of their teaching and demonstrations. Then you test your knowledge by interacting with the software and practicing yourself.

You’ll definitely want a demonstration of the study materials from any training college. You’ll want to see instructor videos, demonstrations, slide-shows and lab’s for you to practice your skills in.

Seek out CD and DVD ROM based physical training media if possible. You’re then protected from broadband outages, failure and signal quality issues etc.

Finding job security nowadays is incredibly rare. Businesses will throw us from the workplace at the drop of a hat – as and when it suits them.

If your search is for Cisco training but you have no experience with routers, the right certification is a CCNA. This training program has been put together to teach individuals who need a commercial knowledge of routers. If you fail to get yourself 24×7 support, you’ll regret it very quickly. It may be that you don’t use it during late nights, but you may need weekends, early mornings or late evenings.

* You can’t ignore the added expense of arranging transport or several days bed and breakfast either. This may well run to 00’s or even 000’s extra. Work it out – you’ll be (unpleasantly) surprised.

* A lot of attendees would like to keep their training completely private so as to avoid any come-back from their current employer.

* Most of us avoid posing questions when surrounded by our fellow attendees – to avoid appearing stupid.

* If you occasionally work elsewhere in the country for several days at a time, imagine the increased difficulty in getting to the necessary workshops, when time is at a premium.

Why don’t you watch on-screen and gain knowledge from tutors one-to-one in ready-made modules, doing them at your convenience – not somebody else’s.

If anything comes up, logon to the 24×7 support facility (that we hope you’ll insist on with any technical courses.) Bear in mind, if your PC is a notebook PC, study isn’t restricted to the home or office.

Lessons and modules can be repeated if you need to – repetition is good for memory. And no worrying about keeping up with note-taking either – everything’s ready to go.

Could it be simpler: Time and money is saved and travelling is avoided altogether; and of course you have a far more relaxed study setting.

When our daily energy requirements are met by ‘Green Energy’, then we are using resources such as wind, tides or geothermal heat. They are thought to be ‘Green’ due to the fact that they are easily restored and natural. When considering elements such as Wind Power and Windmills, in many cases we are looking back at the history of energy production. This idea is preserved by the use of technology, eco-efficient options and planet friendly alternatives.

It is the use of simple renewable energies such as Solar Thermal and Solar Water Heating Collectors, that suits the home environment. It is equipment such as Photovoltaic Panels (PV’s) that develop electricity through suitable roof-panels. Biomass Energy is the next phase, and this involves Fuel, Pellets, Stoves and Boilers burning Wood. Of course, then there is the heating from the Sun – often just called Ground Source Heat Pumps. When we think about Wind Power and Hydropower we have two of the more common forms of energy generation.

Thermal Solar Energy – Typically referred to as Solar Energy this is mainly made up of two types of Solar Panels – each using different methods to achieve similar results. To begin with, we have the concept of drawing energy from the Sun to heat water – known as Solar Water Heating Collectors. Secondly, Photovoltaic heat collectors – often simply referred to as Solar Electrical Panels – which transform the solar radiation into electricity. Obviously situated away from blockages such as chimneys etc., these Solar Panels need to be mounted on south facing roofs at an angle of 30 degrees from the horizontal.

For the UK, this is often considered the most popular form of ‘Green Energy’. Solar Water heating systems can meet the need for more than half of all hot water needs in the domestic market. Getting a professional fitting will cost around 2-5k, however, doing the job yourself could make it as low as 500 to 1500 pounds in total.

Biomass Energy Based Systems: This is a general term for all forms of plant and animal material e.g. wood, straw, poultry litter and ‘energy crops’. It’s the ability of this power source to generate diverse forms of energy, such as heat and electricity, that makes this so adaptable. The ability to generate electricity is one of the UK’s main green strengths – as it has one of the larger Biomass legacies within Europe. Added to all this, is the lack of C02 produced as a by-product of the whole process. Having a tree planted in place of another (that is felled for energy production) helps overall.

By the growth of Short Rotation Crops (SRC), the UK is able to maximise the ‘Energy Crops’ return overall. Of equal importance is the ability to produce dry matter – and perennial grasses are very good for this. Of equal importance, although maybe less well known, are Municipal and Agricultural Waste. One natural offshoot of agricultural work is Agricultural Waste. Because it comes from food or wood, Municipal Waste is also considered a useful biomass product.
